What is a gamified popup?
A gamified popup is a popup campaign designed to engage website visitors with some kind of interactive activity, such as spinning a wheel with prizes, to receive a reward. Gamified popups are effective at driving more conversions compared to traditional popups thanks to their interactivity.
Are gamified popups effective?
When used properly, popups with gamification are an easy and affordable way for online businesses to speed up email list building and sales.
Gamified popups with a spin wheel, for example, convert almost three times more leads compared to traditional popups:
"In our research, we found that gamified popups are most effective when used for limited-time offers, special promotions, and giveaways. This way, you can create a sense of urgency and excitement, driving higher conversions. Using gamified popups as a permanent feature on a website can dilute their impact, making them feel less special and reducing their effectiveness."
Let me also show how effective gamified popups can be with one campaign.
Faguo, a French fashion brand, gave away a pair of sneakers with this good-looking gamified campaign:
By combining gamification with an attractive prize, Faguo was able to boost lead generation by an impressive 11 times.
Specifically, they captured 48,146 new emails and customers' names:

Customize Step 2, which is the prize reveal page. It opens when the visitor types in their email and clicks to spin the wheel.
Click Step 2 just above the campaign preview and start customizing:
Or simply click Apply this design to all steps to use the same colors as in the first window automatically:
Lastly, customize the tab—it's that small popup preview in the left bottom corner. It will keep your gamification popup (and therefore discounts) available until your visitors are ready to convert.

émoi émoi — The Wheel of Love
A French brand émoi émoi implemented gamification to celebrate a gift festival for moms. They made a colorful wheel named “The Wheel of Love,” which allowed all new visitors to win products, free shipping, and discounts.
In just one month (May 2024), this gamified popup captured over 8,000 new subscribers with an impressive 17% sign-up rate:
Soi Paris — Easter Egg Hunt
This gamified campaign promoted an Easter weekend sale in a creative way.
It consisted of a few popups—
The first one announced the rules of the game on the homepage: look for eggs on Soi Paris's website to get a limited-time discount:
The "eggs" were gorgeous-looking, egg-shaped popups that were added to product and collection pages to encourage shoppers to visit more pages:
So, as you can see, the “eggs” were pretty small (but definitely noticeable) and were added to the bottom left corners of the pages.
Here’s a closer look—this one was featured on a page with a product collection:
When visitors clicked on the "egg", it showed a message that congratulated them and gave the discount:
Adding the countdown in that message was definitely a great idea—it’s a tried-and-true tactic that creates a sense of urgency to buy.
The result of this gamified campaign was impressive: 223 customers redeemed the discount codes they found in the "eggs."
